Flower Power! NOT only for girls

¿Quién dice que las flores son sólo para niñas? Bueno, de hecho SON bastante femeninas pero también hay flores de hombre (ni siquiera estoy segura de que esto esté teniendo sentido), y esos estampados florales son CLAVE en esta temporada, así que no pretendan que no se los advertí dandies.
Esta tendencia es totalmente sobre el tipo de estampado que uses: porque NO es lo mismo usar una camisa hawaiiana sacada de Miami Vice que unos tenis de flores en miniprint o una corbata con flores ridículamente grandes. De hecho es un asunto bastante delicado. ¡Pero deja de correr en círculos como muppet! Aquí vamos a ver las claves para usar esta tendencia y no morir en el intento.

Who says flowers are only for girls? Well, they actually ARE pretty femenine, but there also are men's flowers (I'm not even sure that makes any sense), and those floral prints are a KEY PRINT this season, so you cannot pretend I didn't tell you this my dear dandies.
This trend is all about the kind of print you'll wear: it is NOT the same wearing a Miami Vice hawaiian shirt than floral miniprint sneakers or a ridiculous tie with huge flowers. It certeinly is a delicate matter. But stop running in circles like a muppet! Here I give you the keys for enjoy wearing the floral trend and not die trying.

Tal vez sin saberlo, cada temporada todos esperamos las colecciones de este diseñador escocés, aún cuando no sepas su nombre las prendas clave de sus colecciones siempre se ven en el street style, las revistas y los blogs, son referencia clave para gráficos y estampados del mercado junior y una fuente interminable de siluetas para el mercado de la mujer contemporánea.
Su colección pre-otoño 2013 no es la excepión. Tiene sencillos vestidos largos para usar en un brunch con flats o en una boda con tacones altísimos, mucho terciopelo (aquí es donde puedes cantar "she wore bluuuuuuueeeee veeeelveeeeeet" imaginando a Isabella Rosselini en lugar de Lana del Rey), cuero perfecto para la más trendy biker, insertos y mangas transparentes combinadas con telas sólidas o estampadas para un look sexy-pero-no-putesco y sacos y abrigos de apariencia sencilla pero levantados con la tela, forro, estampado o combinación perfecta.
¿Ahora entiendes? Verás mucho y por todos lados esta colección. ¿Que cuál es su nombre? Bueno, él es Christopher-yo-realemente-sé-lo-que-estoy-haciendo-Kane.

Maybe without really knowing every season we all wait for the collections by this Scottish designer, even I you don't know his name, the key itmes from his collections are always all around the street style, the magazines and blogs, they are a key reference for prints and graphics for the junior market and an endless source of silhouettes for the contempo woman market.
His pre-fall 2013 collection is no exception. It has long easy going gowns for wearing in a brunch with flats or a wedding with the highest heels, lots of velvet (you can sing now "she wore bluuuuuuueeee velveeeeet" imagining Isabella Rosselini instead of Lana del Rey), leather worth of the trendiest biker, sheer inserts and sleeves mixed with bold or printed fabrics for a sexy-not-slutty look and simple looking blazers and coats pimped with the right fabric, pattern, linning or combination.
Now you get it? You'll see a lot this collection. And his name? Well, he is Christopher-I-really-know-what-I'm-doing-Kane.

Blocking with Edeline

Edeline Lee es una diseñadora canadiense residente en Londres que (como muchos de los grandes) estudió en Central Saint Martins (muero de la envidia). Sus colecciones de mujer son increíbles y súper limpias, y su especialidad son los bloques: bloques de color, bloques de tela, bloques de textura... bloques de lo-que-sea.
Aquí les dejo su más reciente colección, primavera 2013 que se acaba de presentar en Londres.

Edeline Lee is a Canadian designer based in London, and (as many of the greatest) studied at Central Saint Martins (i'm dying of envy). Her womenswear collections are stunning and super clean, and her speciality is the blocking: colour blocking, fabric blocking, texture blocking... everything blocking.

Si yo fuera un chico, me vestiría así cada día de otoño e invierno por el resto de mi vida. O hasta el siguiente desfile de Burberry Prorsum.

Es una especie de verdad universal que (al menos a mi gusto) las mejores, más trendy y hermosas prendas exteriores están en cada colección de Burberry Prorsum. Digo, han hecho esto por ¡cientos de años! Y Christopher-cásate-conmigo-Bailey realmente sabe lo que hace (¿se han dado cuenta que es mi ídolo?).
¿Acaso se atreven a dudar de mi palabra? Bueno, aquí les dejo mis prendas favoritas (y claves) de las colecciones otoñales de los últimos 3 años.


If I were a boy I'd wear like this every autumn and winter day for the rest of my life. Or untill the next Burberry Prorsum show.
It's some kind of a fact that (at least for me) the very best, trendy and more beautiful outwear is in every Burberry Prorsum collection. I mean, they have donde this of houndreds of years! And Christopher-marry-me-Bayley really knows what he is doing (have you realized he's my idol?)

Berluti s/s 2013

Le pregunté a mi amigo Juanito por qué no había yo visto esta hermosa colección antes, y él respondió que no tenía idea por qué ninguno de los dos la conocía, y ¿saben qué? Eso es una especie de pecado, pues ahora hasta es una de mis colecciones favoritas de París. Bueno, ¿quieren saber de qué estoy hablando? Es de la perfecta hermosa increíble colección de Berluti.
Berluti es una compañía tan antigua como Burberry o Louis Vuitton. Creada en 1895 originalmente sólo hacía botas y zapatos para hombre y después comenzó a hacer también marroquinería. En 1993 fue adquirida por el grupo LMVH.
El responsable de prendas tan bonitas es el genial Alessandro Sartori ¿Se acuerdan que él solía ser el director creativo de Z Zegna? Probablemente no, pero el lanzó esa línea joven de Ermenegildo Zegna y es lo que es ahora gracias a él. O sea que el hombre sabe lo que hace. Desde 2011 es el director artístico en Berluti y él sigue el look de lujo total de la marca.
Para primavera 2013 Sartori nos trae colores profundos: petróleo, verde, shedron y borgoña mezclados con neutrales cafés, beige, arena y gris. Mis looks favoritos fueron el total-look en petróleo (camisa, pajarita y traje), el blazer melange azul pastel, la bomber café con pantalones azul pastel, el trench de piel café y (por supuesto) la chaqueta safari burgundy. Todos estos looks están formados por prendas claves que no envejecen perfectamente refrescadas para la nueva temporada y para el nuevo hombre moderno y elegante. ¡Y los accesorios! ¡Uff! ¡Maravillosos!

I asked my friend Juanito why I had not seen this beautiful collection before, and he answered that he had not idea why neither knew it before, and you know? That's kind of a sin, since it has become one of my Paris favourites. Well, do you wanna know what I'm talking about? It's the perfect beautiful gorgeous collection from Berluti.
Berlutti is a brand as old as Burberry or Louis Vuitton. Created in 1895, originally made only men boots and shoes, adding afterwards all kinds of leather goods and in 1993 it was acquired by the LMVH group.
The responsable of such pretty garments is the awesome Alessandro Sartori, do you remember he used to be the creative director of Z Zegna? Probably not, but he launched the brand and the younger Ermenegildo Zegna line is what it is now because of him. Well, the dude knows what he is doing. Since 2011 he is the artistic director at Berluti and he follows the brand's luxury total look.
For spring 2013 Sartori brings us deep colours: petrol,green, burnt orange and burgundy mixed with neutral brown, beige, sand and grey. My favourite looks are the total-petrol look (shirt, bow tie and suit), the melange pastel blue blazer, brown bomber with pastel blue trousers, the brown leather trench coat and (of course) the burgundy safari jacquet. All this looks have ageless key items perfectly refreshed for the new season and for the new elegant and modern man. And the accessories! Ufff! Gorgeous!

Is that lace for real?

Al parecer nunca entenderé cómo diablos le hace Elie-dios-de-la-alta-costura-Saab para hacer esas colecciones tan hermosamente perfectas. Su trabaja tiene un sello claramente Saab y cada temporada lo hace más mejor (sí, escribí "más mejor" porque es súper superlativo): las siluetas, los colores, telas y los bordados... Es TAN clásicamente couture, o sea couture DE VERDAD, ya saben todo cosido a mano, bordado, único. Pura chulada.
Para la colección de alta costura de otoño/invierno 2012 fue directo al negro, nude, durazno, topo, petróleo y mucho DORADO (¡yaju, brillo!). También pudimos ver las clásicas siluetas Saab: el vestido con-falda-amplia-de-tul, el de escote-profundo-a-la-cintura y el vestido de novia por el que Grace-Kelly-moriría-de-la-envidia.
Ya sé que mis descripciones tontas no le hacen justicia al diseñador, y su trabajo es TAN bonito que esta entrada merece fotos enormes de detalles y un .gif.
Él es así de bueno.

It seems I'll never know how the hell does Elie-he's-like-a-couture-god-Saab does such beautifully  perfect collections. His work has a clear Saab style and every season he does it better and better: the silhouettes, the colours, materials and the embroideries... He's SO old style couture, I mean ACTUAL couture: you know, all hand sewn, embroidered, one-of-a-kind. Just plain beauty.
For the autumn/winter 2012 couture collection he went for the black, nude, peach, teal, taupe and lots of GOLD (yeah, glitter!). We also saw the classical Saab: the full-tulle-skirt dress, the deep-front-décolletage dress and the Grace-Kelly-would-die-for-this bridal dress.
I know my odd descriptions are not enough for this designer, and his work is SO pretty that this post deserves full close-ups of details AND a .gif.
He's THAT good.

Hay algo raro en todo el patronaje de Juun J. y es exactamente eso lo que hace a su trabajo tan perfecto, hermoso e increíble. Nada es lo que parece: ni las solapas, los dobladillo o los cierres son tan sencillos como uno piensa a primera vista.

There is something odd about all Juun J. pattern making, and exactly that is what makes his work so perfect beautiful and awesome. Nothing is what it seems: not the lapels, the hems or the zippers are as simple as we think at first sight.

Givenchy

En esta marca no le temen a nada: en esta colección nos regalan estampados de flores del paraíso, lentejuelas e incluso faldas. Queridos hombres: esto es la máxima valentía.

This brand is gloriously afraid of nothing: in this collection we enjoy paradise flower prints, sequins and even skirts. Dear men, this is the ultimate braveness.

Ann Demeulemeester

Ya todos saben que hay un goth dentro de mí y ese goth AMA a Ann. Esta temporada nos trae largos tops, transparencias, pantalones cortos y por supuesto botas patea-traseros.

You all know there is a goth inside me and that goth definitely LOVES Ann. This season as usual she brings long tops, transparencies, cuffed trousers and of course kick-ass combat boots.

I want...

En teoría mñana abren la nueva tienda de Stradivarius en Buenavista, acá en la Ciudad de México. Ésta es la única tienda de Inditex que no había llegado a nuestro país y también es mi favorita (no sólo por la referencia al laudero barroco, de hecho me volví súper fan el otoño pasado en Barcelona), es bastante barata, stylish y es TAN mi estilo (hasta los básicos, así que imagínense). Hay esta y otra tienda más en México, en Parque Tezontle (Si me preguntan "¿en dónde es Parque Tezontle?" la respuesta sería en el mundo de los emoticons o.O, o "no tengo la menor idea), pero la de Forum Buenavista es muy céntrica y está cerca del tren suburbano, el metrobús y el metro. Así que es perfecto ¿no?
Como sea miren algunas cosas que muero por comprar:

In theory tomorrow will open the brand new Stradivarius store in Buenavista, Mexico City. This is the only Inditex store that hasn't arrived to Mexico and it also is my favorite one (not only for the reference to the baroque violin maker, actually I became a total fan last autumn in Barcelona), it's very cheap, stylish and SO my style (even the basics, so you can imagine). There is only another one here in Mexico in Parque Tezontle ("Where is Parque Tezontle?" you may ask, and the answer in the world of emoticons would be o.O, or "I don't have the slightest idea"), but this one in Forum Buenavista is very centric and near the train, metrobus and subway. Perfect, isn't it?
Anyway, I'm dying to shop some styles there and here I share them with you:

¿Uno cómo puede empezar a hablar de la colección de primavera 2012 de marc by Marc Jacobs?
Bueno, yo empezaría con un "la amo" seguida por el todos conocido "Marc es uno de mis diseñadores favoritos" y después la verdad absoluta "estoy muy prendada de esta marca y no puedo dejar de comprar cosas de las que me enamoro". Ahora se supone que yo diría lo que más me gustó de la colección, como "NECESITO todas y cada una de las piezas de rayas y en el estampado de aves sobre azul marino" y luego diría que "todas las siluetas son perfectamente usables y cómodas (como siempre) y que no hace un uso excesivo del peplum como en muchas otras colecciones". Después de eso terminaría exaltando mi amor al diseñador con algo como "Marc siempre me sorprende y es justo esta la colección que más espero de NY, él NUNCA me decepciona".
Eso es lo que escribiría en un post, pero ustedes ya saben todo eso, así que les dejo un .gif de la colección.

How can one start talking about the spring 2012 marc by Marc Jacobs collection?
Well, I'd begin with an "I love it" followed by the all known "Marc is one of my very favorite designers" and then the absolute truth "I am deeply into this brand and I can't stop buying stuff I fall in love with". Now I'd be suposed to say what I loved the most about the collection, like "I NEED each and every striped piece and the birdie print on navy fabric" and after that I'd say "all the silhouettes are perfectly wearable and comfortable (as always) and there is no exessive use of the peplum like in many other collections". After that I would finaly exalt my love for the designer with a "Marc always surprises me and this is the very collection I expect the most from NY and he NEVER dissapoints me".
I would write that for a post, but you already know all that, so I leave you a .gif of the collection.

Milan Spring 2012

Un poco de menswear no le hace daño a nadie, y si viene de Milán, pues menos. Para esta primavera las colecciones más comerciales (que siempre son las que se presentan en Milán) nos muestran una cara más excéntrica: colores brillantes, looks inspirados en los 50's y sastrería ligera.
Como siempre, una de mis colecciones favoritas fue la de Burberry Prorsum con su look étnico-veraniego. Pero también amé: los estampado en D&G y Niel Barrett; el tejido de punto en Marni y Pringle of Scotland; las transparencias en Jil Sander, Ports 1961 y Nicole Farhi; los colores llamativos de Roberto Cavalli y los neutrales en Salvatore Ferragamo, Ermenegildo Zegna y Canali.
A ustedes ¿qué les gustó más de las colecciones de ésta ciudad?

Some menswear can't hurt, and if it comes from Milan it's even better. For this spring the most commercial collections (wich are always presented in Milan) show a somehow more eccentric face: bright colours, retro 50's looks and light tailoring.
As usual, one of my favorite collections is definitely Burberry Prorsum with their summer-ethnic look. But I also loved: the prints at D&G and Neil Barrett, the knitwear at Marni and Pringle of Scotland, the transparencies at Jil Sander, Ports 1961 and Nicole Farhi, the bright colours at Roberto Cavalli and the neutrals at Salvatore Ferragamo, Ermenegildo Zegna and Canali.

London Spring 2012

Ya sé que esto ya pasó pero he aquí mi selección de looks de las colecciones de Primavera/Verano 2012 de Londres... Ah, por cierto, es sólo menswear. Ya saben que es lo que más me gusta.
Mis favoritos fueron James Long y (obviamente) Topman Design, pero Daks tiene looks hermosos como siempre, Shaun Samson fue una grata sorpresa para le mercado junior y Hardy Amies, Tod Lynn y Paul Costelloe mostraron lindas alternativas de sastrería.
¿Cuáles fueron sus colecciones favoritas de Londres?

I know this happened centuries ago, but this is my looks selections of the London collections for Spring / Summer 2012... Ah by the way, it's only menswear. You know I'm a fan.
My favorite ones were James Long and (obviously) Topman Design, but Daks is beautiful as always, Shaun Samson was a nice junior surprise and Hardy Amies, Tod Lynn and Paul Costelloe had pretty alternative tailoring.
