The Nutcracker X-Mas

Ya sé que no he publicado nada desde hace cientos de años, pero aquí estoy de vuelta. Mucho más cansada de lo que se imaginan, después de cantar la larguísima temporada navideña de la OSM y ahora en la mitad de los conciertos de navidad del coro Y en mi trabajo de Godínez Y he estado dibujando. Suena como si you fuera una trabajadora muy comunista.
Como sea, durante esos conciertos la orquesta tocaba 3 números de la suite de El Cascanueces de Tchaikovsky y aunque éste está LEJOS de se uno de mis ballets favoritos la música definitivamente sí es de mis preferidas. Así que he estado pensando en el ballet y en todos esos personajes que bailan solo una pieza, y en los pocos que aparecen en todo el ballet y (por supuesto) en los maravillosos looks y vestuarios que cada año se crean para las diferentes compañías que lo bailan.
Y pus claro que hice algunas ilustraciones. Pero no solo eso. Como es época navideña y todo mundo quiere dar regalos pues pensé en que debería darles un pequeño regalito a ustedes queridos lectores: las ilustraciones de El Cascanueces son tarjetas descargables para que las puedan imprimir y dárselas a quien quieran GRATIS. I know I haven't posted like in a hundred years, but here I am! More tired than you can imagine, after singing the super long Christmas season of the OSM and now in the middle of the choir's own x-mas concerts AND at my job AND I've been drawing. It sounds like I'm some sort of communist hardworker.
Anyway, during this concerts the orchestra played 3 numbers from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker suite, and even if it is FAR from being my favourite ballet the music definitely is one of my favourite ones. So, I've been thinking about the ballet and all those characters that dance only one piece, the few that appear during the whole ballet and (of course!) about the marvellous looks and costumes that every year are created for the many companies that dance it.
And of course I made a few illustrations. But not only that. Compré el número de octubre de Vogue USA y mientras la leía llegué a dos conclusiones:

1. Odio el orden en el que ponen los anuncios. Digo, ¡¿Por qué diablos ponen 8 páginas de anuncios EN MEDIO de un artículo?! Casi dejo de leer porque resulta RIDÍCULAMENTE incómodo.
2. Esta es una revista que realmente es para leer. O sea, es obvio para cualquiera que la haya leido pero en este mes The Long Wait (por Jennifer Gilmore) y A Dancer's Dilemma (por Meg Howrey) son artículos increíbles.

My Body Sleeps

A veces cuando veo los proyectos de bailarines de ballet siento que estoy viendo un corto casi-porno o una película francesa. Pero he estado pensando en eso y he aquí mi conclusión: Los bailarines están tan conscientes de sus cuerpos, controla tan bien su instrumento artístico que toda esa sensualidad es de alguna manera una consecuencia natural. Justo como cuando vas a la ópera y te encuentras viendo Death in Venice de Britten. O como cuando ves este filme de un bailarín holandés.

Some times when I see the ballet dancer's alternate projects I think I'm watching some almost-porn short-film or a french movie. But I've been thinking about that and this is my conclusion: Dancers are so conscious of their bodies, they control their art instrument so well that all this sensuality is somehow a natural consequence. Just like when you go to the opera and you find yourself watching Britten's Death in Venice. Or you look at this short film of a dutch ballet dancer.

The Swan

Si uno lo piensa lo suficiente, Odile aparece sólo en dos escenas de El Lago de los Cisnes, asíq eu puedo no existir esta mujer malévola sino ser simpleamente Odette destruyéndose a sí mismo. Por eso me encantó la idea que manjean en Black Swan de que la misma ballerina interprete los dos roles.
Originalmente ésto era el print para una camiseta, pero la fecha de entrega cambió y no lo logré a tiempo :(
Como sea, aquí está:

If you think about it, Odile only appears in two scenes in The Swan Lake, so there's not an evil sister but Odette destroying and killing herself. That's why I totally got the point on choosing a single ballerina for both roles at the Black Swan film, being the beautiful Natalie Portman this crazy-creepy-ballerina.
Originally this was a print for a tee shirt, but the deadline was changed and I didn't make it on time :(
