The Nutcracker X-Mas

Ya sé que no he publicado nada desde hace cientos de años, pero aquí estoy de vuelta. Mucho más cansada de lo que se imaginan, después de cantar la larguísima temporada navideña de la OSM y ahora en la mitad de los conciertos de navidad del coro Y en mi trabajo de Godínez Y he estado dibujando. Suena como si you fuera una trabajadora muy comunista.
Como sea, durante esos conciertos la orquesta tocaba 3 números de la suite de El Cascanueces de Tchaikovsky y aunque éste está LEJOS de se uno de mis ballets favoritos la música definitivamente sí es de mis preferidas. Así que he estado pensando en el ballet y en todos esos personajes que bailan solo una pieza, y en los pocos que aparecen en todo el ballet y (por supuesto) en los maravillosos looks y vestuarios que cada año se crean para las diferentes compañías que lo bailan.
Y pus claro que hice algunas ilustraciones. Pero no solo eso. Como es época navideña y todo mundo quiere dar regalos pues pensé en que debería darles un pequeño regalito a ustedes queridos lectores: las ilustraciones de El Cascanueces son tarjetas descargables para que las puedan imprimir y dárselas a quien quieran GRATIS. I know I haven't posted like in a hundred years, but here I am! More tired than you can imagine, after singing the super long Christmas season of the OSM and now in the middle of the choir's own x-mas concerts AND at my job AND I've been drawing. It sounds like I'm some sort of communist hardworker.
Anyway, during this concerts the orchestra played 3 numbers from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker suite, and even if it is FAR from being my favourite ballet the music definitely is one of my favourite ones. So, I've been thinking about the ballet and all those characters that dance only one piece, the few that appear during the whole ballet and (of course!) about the marvellous looks and costumes that every year are created for the many companies that dance it.
And of course I made a few illustrations. But not only that. "Missing pieces" or "They take a part of you with them"

Cual fanática religiosa tan pronto como salió a la venta el disco solista de Jack White corrí a comprarlo una tienda de música. Sí, no música de iTunes, si no música con un hermoso cuadernillo con fotos en azul y negro de el súper pálido Jack que aparentemente no sabe que el sol es gratis.
"Missing Pieces" es el track que abre el disco y desde el inicio de la melodía del órgano me encantó (aunque este no es mi más-ultra-súper track favorito), digo, nada más chequen la letra:

"Sometimes someone control everything about you

and when they tell you that they just can't live without you

they ain't lyin', they'll take pieces of you

and they'll stang above you and walk away

that's right, and take a part of you with them."

Un poco creepy ¿no? Bueno, a veces la verdad es un tanto creepy. Y lo es más cuando viene en la forma de la rara y aguda voz de Jack White.

Like a religious fanatic as soon as the new Jack White solo album "Blunderbuss" was available I ran to the music store and bought it. Yes, not iTunes music, but music with a physical beautiful booklet with black and blue photos of super pale Jack who doesn't know that sunlight is for free.
"Missing Pieces" is the first track and since the beginning of the organ melody I loved it (even though it is not my very-most-ultra-super-favourite track), I mean just check the lyric:

"Sometimes someone control everything about you

Creepy, uh? Well, truth is sometimes creepy. And even when it comes in the form of the odd high voice of Jack White.

I LOVE Keane. Definitely one of my favorite bands ever with their clean sound and sweet voice. For this new album they are back to their basic old sound. But even prettier.

Estoy a punto de decirles la máxima verdad del universo. ¿Están listos? Aquí va:

El pop coreano derrite el cerebro.

Y si el coro de la canción está en inglés, tiene aplausos y una melodía pegajosa, estás condenado. Perdido. Para siempre.

Ahora tu cerebro está derretido. Ten cuidado de no inclinar tu cabeza porque tu cerebro se puede escurrir por tus orejas o nariz. (Ya sé, soy de lo peor). El punto es que esa canción se te pegará aunque no entiendas nada de lo que dice. Y la amarás.

The point is you'll be sticked to that korean pop song even if you don't understand a thing. You'll love it.

Because there's also dancing. Oh God, the choreography is absolute ruin.

Then, when you sing, clap and dance you are lost. Completely lost.

Yes, I'm a big fan.

I love K-pop.

Even when I don't understand why are the boybands still popular in Korea.

I guess it's the claps in the songs.

Or the amazing styling of each member of each band. (It's true! They ALWAYS look so stylish!)

La Cathédrale Egloutie

Éste es una entrada rápida porque me estoy quedando dormida en el teclado.
Hoy fue la noche de museos y fui al MUNAL. Vi las exposiciones temporales y llegué a la conclusión de que AMO las exposiciones de ese museo cuando el artista o el tema principal es la ilustración. No sé cómo lo hacen que mi lista de ídolos aumenta cada vez que voy.
Recomiendo altamente la pequeña sala en el 1er piso que tiene ilustraciones de revistas mexicanas de los años 20 y 30.
El punto es que uno de mis ídolos está en el museo. No, no es Picasso. OK, sí es, pero no me refiero a él. El ídolo de hoy es el holandés Escher.
Como soy tan fan-del-infierno seré breve y les contaré solo un instante:
Entre a la última sala de la exposición y lancé un gritito y hasta brinqué un poco. Aparentemente me volví loca, pero no. Simplemente vi ésta obra:

La cual relacioné con ésta otra:

Y me emocioné.
Es que amo a Escher y su forma de dar profundidad a lo totalmente plano. Y amo a Debussy y su forma de usar escalas pentáfonas y armónicos.
Sí, soy bien fan y qué.
Pero vean el lado bueno: ahora que vayan a la exposición, "La Catedral Sumergida" ya no les parecerá sólo una ilustración medio surrealista del loco de Escher.

La semana pasada fue larga y cansada. Muy. ¿Se preguntan por qué? Bueno, la semana anterior a esa estuve en la hermosa Barcelona, cantando conciertos todos los días, paseando por la ciudad y comeindo como si no hubiera mañana. (De hecho es bastante sorprendente que no haya regresado a México hecha una vaca). Por eso no había posteado nada. Ahí por si se lo preguntaban.
Como sea, antes de mis 1000000 millones de posts sobre ésta ciudad europea, les dejo un collage y una canción del soundtrack de mi viaje.

The last week was long and tiring. Very. Why, you ask? Well, the week before that I was in beautiful Barcelona, singing concerts every day, taking walks in the city and eating like there were not tomorrow. (actually it's amazing I'm not fat now back in Mexico). That's why I had not posted anything. If you were wondering.

Justo como en 500 Days of Summer, me encantan los Smiths. Hay algo en la dulce voz de Morrissey cantando esas frases tristes y oscuras con ese sonido TAN de los 80's que simplemente me encanta. No he dejado de escuchar The Sound of The Smiths y ésta semana definitivamente es el soundtrack de mi vida, obvio conmigo cantando sin cesar "and if a ten-ton truck kills the both of us / to die by your side the pleasure, the privilege it's mine".
No me puedo detener ¿ya lo notaron?


Just like in 500 Days of Summer, I love The Smiths. There is something in the Morrissey's sweet voice singing sad dark lyrics with that SO 80's sound that I just love it. I haven't stopped to listen The Sound of The Smiths and this week it's definitely the soundtrack of my life with me singing non stop "and if a ten-ton truck kills the both of us / to die by your side the pleasure, the privilege it's mine".

Save the Date: Vogue Fashion's Night Out

Deberían saber que amo el concepto detrás de la Vogue's Fashion Night Out. Quiero decir, ¿por qué no lo amaría? Es un maravilloso proyecto creado para reactivar la industria y recordar al consumidor que el ir de compras es toda una experiencia. Y podría darles una cátedra sobre la idea de Vogue y el CFDA, o pueden leerlo aquí. :) Jajá, hoy no se los facilitaré (vamos, no sean flojos y den clic clic CLIC).
Bien.
Ésta será la primer Fashion's Night Out en la ciudad de México, habrá cocteles en las tiendas de Inditex, sesiones de fotos, photobooths y las elecciones de editoras de moda de Vogue en las tiendas departamentales, exposición de portadas vintage de Vogue en los centros comerciales, artículos especiales de algunas marcas... es una larga lista, ¿no?

¿Qué van a hacer ustedes esa noche?  Yo aun no lo sé con certeza, no porque no tenga un plan, si no porque tengo tantas expectativas por los eventos que las marcas organizan. Me refiero a que en otros años al rededor del mundo ha habido todo tipo de actividades, desde fiestas en Burberry (se dice que ellos siempre hacen las mejores fiestas) hasta ver "Breakfast at Tiffany's" en la tienda de Carolina Herrera.

Mi plan es éste (y por supuesto que pueden unírseme si quieren): andaré en bici en Masaryk y checaré cada tienda que esté llena de gente interesante y después iré a Antara. Y he aquí la parte divertida: ustedes DEBEN vestir su mejor y más personal look porque habrá fotógrafos de Vogue (podrían aparecer en la revista!) y yo los estaré viendo a ustedes y a mis favoritos les tomaré una foto rápida y les daré mi tarjeta porque los dibujaré y al mejor le regalaré el original de su ilustración (yo NUNCA doy mis originales, pero lo haré en el nombre de la FNO, así que ésto no es poca cosa, ¿eh?).
Finalmente les dejo un video (e ilustración) de la FNO en Londres el año pasado: es George Craig de One Night Only vistiendo (obvio) Burberry al cantar "Chemistry" (AMO esa canción) y va caminando a la tienda.
Como sea, la pregunta sigue siendo: ¿Qué pasará el 8 de septiembre? No lo sé, pero es seguro que será divertido.

You should know I love the concept behind the Vogue's Fashion's Night Out. I mean, why not? It's a marvelous project for the reactivation of the fashion industry reminding the costumer that shopping is an experience. And I could tell you all about it or you could read it here. :) Haha, not an easy post today, huh? (come on! don't be lazy and clic clic CLIC).
Well.
This is gonna be the first FNO in Mexico City, there will be cocktails and DJs at the Inditex stores, fashion shoots and photobooths at departamental stores, vintage Vogue covers exhibitions at malls, Vogue's fashion editor's choices at the departamental stores, special items form some brands... long list, isn't it?
What are you gonna do that night? I don't know yet, not because I don't a plan, but because I'm so expectant for the events the brands are gonna throw. I mean other years all around the world there have been all kinds of activities, since parties hosted by Burberry (people say that they always throw the best parties) to watch "Breakfast at Tiffany's" at the Carolina Herrera store.
My plan is this (and of course you can join me if you want): I'll ride my bike to Masaryk and check out every store I find with enough people interesting and after that I'll go to Antara. And here is the fun part: You MUST be wearing your very best and personal look because the will be Vogue photographers and I'll be checking on you and I'll take photos and give my card to my favorite ones 'cause I'll draw your looks and the very best one will have his/her original drawing. (I NEVER give my originals so this is a big thing, huh?).

Anyway, the question is: What will happen on September the 8th? I don't know, but it shall be fun.

Ya sé que no he posteado nada en siglos! Pero, entiéndanme, he estado cosiendo mi colección para graduarme y bueno... aún no acabo. Como sea, ahorita ha disminuido mi cantidad de cosas a coser, y como en todo el día no he podido dejar de pensar y cantar en ésta canción hice uns ilustración con toda esa onda francesa de "Where do you go to my lovely" del cantante de los 60 Peter Sarstedt.

Sí, lo acepto: soy una fanática del infierno. ¡Pero no es mi culpa! El nuevo álbum de Patrick Wolf "Lupercalia" es tan genial y hermoso y feliz y maduro e inspirador. Especialmente inspirador. Así que con esas hermosas canciones en mi cabeza (y mis itunes) hice esto.

Yes, I accept it: I am a fan from hell. But it's not my fault! Patrick Wolf's new album "Lupercalia" is just awesome and beautiful and happy and mature and inspiring. Especially inspiring. So with so many pretty songs in my head (and itunes) I made this.

¿Alguna vez han escuchado una canción y luego visto el video y luego sonreír? Me encanta cuando eso sucede (aunque es triste que eso no suceda a menudo). La última vez que me había pasado fue al ver el video "The City" de Patrick-cásate-conmigo-Wolf. Y después de eso fue hace 5 minutos al ver el video del nuevo sencillo "House". Y sonreí tanto y amé la canción y el styling es increíble y la casa es genial y... bueno, es perfecta. Y por supuesto no puedo quedármelo yo sola.
Lo único que odio es que todos los sencillos de Lupercalia NO están disponibles en la iTunes store de México!! ¡¡¿Por qué me hacen eso?!! Hum.... bueno, perdón, pero tenía que expresar mi odio.

Have you ever listened to a song and then watch the video and then smile? I love when that happens (so sad that it doesn't very often). The last time that happened to me was with the video "The City" by Patrick-marry-me-Wolf. And 5 minutes ago I watched the new single "House", and I smiled so much and loved the song and the styling is gorgeous and the house is marvelous and... well, it's bloody perfect. And of course I cannot keep it to myself.
The only thing I hate is that all this Lupercalia singles are NOT available in the Mexico iTunes store!!!! What's wrong with them?! Sorry, I had to say it.
